Behind The Board

May 07, 2023

If you have ever seen one of my serving boards you probably have noticed that the back is not “finished.”  That is intentional; it is part of the piece and (in my opinion), doesn’t need to be covered up. I don’t mind that the backs have drip marks.  They add to the uniqueness of each piece.

The fronts of the serving boards are glossy, sparkly, colorful, and interesting.  They look polished, put together, and ready to go. Turn it over and you see a little bit of a mess.  I don’t know about you, but I am the same way.  I try to portray the best, most put-together version of myself to the world.  I hate to admit it, but I waste too much time debating between which picture I feel like I look my best to post on social media. As humans, we all want to show the neat and tidy parts of life and ourselves - BUT inside, we are all at least a little messy, flawed, and unfinished.

Everyone has struggles.  Everyone experiences messy times in life. I like that my serving boards somewhat reflect the “unperfectness” of us and of life. (I could have said imperfections, but that would have been a little too perfect.)
